Time to revive this sucker

OK, this is attempt No. 2 to revive the site. I hope to intergrate it with facebook and myspace sites to make it very easy to look at any of the three and be up-to-date with everything.

Be on the lookout, we are going to try to wow you. At least 'Whoo' you. Maybe a 'yippie'.

Moving Daze

Sorry with the lack of commitment to this site.

Then again, I haven't heard much from you either, so take that for what it is worth...

I am in the process of moving from Crawfordsville to Lafayette and it's exactly that, a process. Just got the DirecTV installed, waiting on the trailer with our stuff from Michigan and then waiting to get the internet installed as well (how I am connected now, well, that's grounds for removal of your tounge), so it's been a busy start to the week.

The football draw is Tuesday night at 7 p.m., I will post it as soon as I can here.

The post-season begins!

It's officially fall now, so that means the start of the end for fall sports.

The girls golf sectionals were last week. Crawfordsville advanced as a team, led by Stormy Staton, who fired a 74 to pace the Athenians to a second-place finish.

The whole team, along with Miranda Pettit of North and Taylor Davis of Southmont also will compete this Saturday at the Lafayette Munie. Look for previews of golf in Thursday's Journal Review.

The soccer draws come out on Monday at 8 a.m. for sectionals that begin Oct. 14.

Football draws are set for Tuesday, Oct. 7, always a big day for teams around the area to know who to prepare for.

Other sports sectionals just around the corner:
Team tennis: Oct. 2
Cross County: Oct. 14
Volleyball: Oct. 21

I've been lazy...

Not really, busy more like it.

With Purdue kicking off its season, I have been in "mad mode" getting prepared for that. Now that I have a better grasp of how my week should go, we will get into a better mode for getting stuff on here and on the JR Sports myspace site. Check that out as well!

Week 2 of football tonight

The second week of the high school football season is tonight.
Here is a look at the top games in the area and who will be covering it for the JR.

Crawfordsville (0-1) at Danville (0-1) - Brad Hall
Crawfordsville’s football team gets an early start to the Sagamore Athletic Conference season.
The Athenians are coming off a 49-31 season-opening loss at Class 3A, No. 4-ranked West Lafayette. In his first game as a varsity quarterback, senior Brett McKinney completed 19-of-33 passes for 261 yards and one touchdown.
Brett Linn had eight catches for 137 yards, while Jordan Boykin had nine catches for 104 yards and one touchdown. Boykin also had a 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
West Lafayette’s Matt Lancaster threw for 342 yards and four touchdowns in the victory.
Junior Craig Fairley led Crawfordsville’s rushing attack with 16 carries for 102 yards and one touchdown.
Danville opened its season with a 35-7 loss to Class 4A, No. 8-ranked Plainfield. The Warriors were limited to 163 yards of total offense, rushing for 82 yards and passing for 81. David Hess led the Warriors with 23 carries for 51 yards. Quarterback Trent Schaffer, who takes over for 2008 graduate Colton Cooper, completed 11-of-31 passes for 81 yards and one touchdown.
Schaffer had a 12-yard touchdown pass to Calvin Beasley in the third quarter.
Luke Robinson led the Warriors with four catches for 33 yards.
Dating back to 1999, Danville has won eight of the last nine meetings against Crawfordsville. The Athenians’ lone win over the Warriors during that stretch was a 35-28 decision in 2005. In a contest that started Friday and continued Saturday, Danville defeated Crawfordsville 28-19 last season.

Turkey Run (0-1) at Fountain Central (0-1) - Matt Miller
The Mustangs look to keep their winning streak over the Warriors going as they open Wabash River Conference action. Fountain Central has won the last six games against Turkey Run, limiting the Warriors to one touchdown or fewer in the last three meetings.
Fountain Central opened its season with a 14-0 loss to Southmont. Sam Shoaf led the Mustangs’ rushing attack with 10 carries for 32 yards. Tanner Pierce had eight carries for 26 yards.
Turkey Run opened conference action with a 29-6 loss to North Vermillion. Jake Vandiver’s 8-yard touchdown run provided the Warriors their lone points. Turkey Run had a 6-0 lead before North Vermillion scored 29 unanswered points.

North Putnam (1-0) at Southmont (1-0) - Matt Wilson
For the first time since 2003, both teams come into the non-conference game coming off season-opening victories. The Mounties snapped a four-year losing streak in season-opening games by winning at Fountain Central 14-0 Friday. The last time Southmont won its first game of the season was 2003 when it beat Fountain Central, 55-0.
But the Mounties know they will have their hands full if they want to start 2-0. North Putnam comes into the contest winners of 21 of its last 22 and 19 consecutive regular-season games. The last time North Putnam lost a regular-season game was a 28-7 decision to Speedway Oct. 8, 2005.
North Putnam has won four straight games against the Mounties, including last year’s 32-0 shutout played on a Saturday night because Friday’s game was canceled because of lightning.
The Mounties limited Fountain Central to 71 rushing yards in Friday’s shutout victory, but will have to contend with a potent Cougar rushing attack Friday. Behind senior Griffen Dahlstrom’s 229 rushing yards, the Cougars amassed 350 ground yards in Saturday’s season-opening 35-9 victory over North Posey.
Southmont scored one offensive touchdown against the Mustangs — that coming on Micah Hatch’s 13-yard run — but was aided by a 100-yard interception return for touchdown by Tanner Hill. Hill led the Mounties’ rushing attack with 10 carries for 66 yards, while Hatch had 15 carries for 31 yards.

Seeger (0-1) at North Montgomery (1-0) - Jon Sicotte
The Chargers attempt to start the season 2-0 for the third straight year. North has defeated Seeger in the last two meetings, downing the Patriots 47-28 last year and 29-20 in 2006.
The Patriots opened their season with a wild 45-38 loss to 2007 Class A state runner-up Rockville. The Rox had as big as a 37-16 lead, but the Patriots pulled within seven points in the final minute.
Senior running back Ethan Cronk led the Patriots with 29 carries for 225 yards and three touchdowns. The Patriots, however, lost four first-half fumbles, three of those by quarterback Scott Moore.
North opened its season with a 50-14 victory over Benton Central. The Chargers led 6-0 after one quarter, but scored 28 points in the second quarter to head into halftime with a comfortable 35-7 advantage.
Charger sophomore quarterback Clayton Dale finished 16-for-20 for 253 yards and one touchdown. Brett Stamper led North’s receivers with six catches for 181 yards and two touchdowns.

Other games:
Clinton Central at Western Boone, 7 p.m.
Covington at Rockville, 7 p.m.

Welcome to the Cville Sports Blog

Hi, I am Jon Sicotte, the newest addition to the Crawfordsville Journal Review sports department.
I am a Michigander, but I am thrilled to be covering Cville sports starting on Monday Aug. 18.
I will be starting a myspace.com site soon also, so look for a link when I get it set up.
Both will be a great way to communicate with me, and the rest of the area when it comes to high school sports, Wabash College...even Purdue, the Colts or the Pacers.
I am still in Michigan (I will resign my duties as Sports Editor of the Tuscola County Advertiser (TuscolaToday.com) on Friday), but will be in town next week and I can't wait.

In Sports,

Jon
